Launch of DISCOVER/ Hello Carers in Dublin on 12th of June was a huge succes! Thanks to Lucia Carragher, Karen Doherty and Andrew MacFarlane.

I went to Dublin especially for that occasion (ok, also to have fun, which is easy to achieve in Dublin). I was very impressed by the Minister for Disability, Older People, Equality and Mental Health, Kathleen Lynch. She arrived on foot with no ‘officials’ around her, very informal and accessible, unlike what I am used to in The Netherlands. And I had the honour to join her and Olive Houston, a young Irish lady who is an informal carer herself, plus Andrew Macfarlane (CASALA) for a photo session. I am looking forward to see that picture published somewhere vain old man that I am.

The creation of a European Centre of Mutual Help Groups gave the kick-off for this type of approach.

The progressive aging of population requires an in-depth reflection of their implications for the aged person, family unit and socio-cultural issue. The high rate of dementia or other neuropsychological disorders and the inherent tensions to the disease and care process underlines the urgency of reflection and action in order to provide appropriate and effective support to the family and primary caregiver, in a condition of home care provision.

Good news from DISCOVER Netherlands

Τετ, 27/03/2013 - 10:40 -- admin

The DISCOVER partners in the Netherlands have decided to concentrate on the cities of Kerkrade, Brunssum and Nuth in the region of Parkstad in Limburg to start their pilots sites. By working with regional care provider Meander, 250 iPads are being handed out to participants during the next few months. Meanders new ‘virtual caring service’ fits well together with the DISCOVER goals.
